About
Farzana Cassim has been a Urology Consultant at Stellenbosch University (Cape Town) since 2015. She completed her Urology training at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2014, and successfully completed her MMed in Urology in 2015. She went on to spend close to a year operating with Professor Johann Naudé at Eerste River Hospital, gaining experience and insight into the field of Reconstructive Urology. It was during this time that she attended and operated in a workshop with Dr. Igor Vaz in Mozambique. Her interest in Female Continence work developed while working with Prof. Stephen Jeffery and Dr. Lisa Kaestner during her Urology training, and subsequently continued while working with Dr. Kobus van Rensburg at Tygerberg Hospital. Farzana also has a keen interest in Paediatric Urology, working closely with Paediatric Nephrologists in order to improve outcomes for patients with complex urinary anomalies.
Farzana is involved in Registrar and undergraduate student training as well, where she hopes to encourage budding doctors to consider pursuing a career in Urology. Her current project is to improve the laparoscopic service offered at Tygerberg Hospital, as well as increase the training of Registrars in this field.
