I am thrilled at the inception of this mentor group. Internationally there are still just a handful of female urologists but the world is changing. We see the rise of the archetypal feminine energy globally.
My journey in Urology has been interesting as the first Indian female to qualify from the University of Witwatersrand. This is why I have much to offer young women in Urology. The trials and tribulations you will face are definitely worth it. These are your formative years but also your opportunity of personal growth. Embrace it!
All the women here understand the obstacles that you will face. We also know the value of people willing you to succeed. I take this opportunity to thank my supporters -male and female, urological and otherwise.
I believe that the key to happiness is fulfilling your potential and finding the right balance in life. I will strive to help you find that happy zone. I have always been an all-rounder. I was shaped by my roles as Head Girl, SRC President and Sports Captain at an all-girls school. My parents instilled a strong belief in gender equality and social justice. My lessons, will be your lessons.
I am a consultant at University of the Witwatersrand and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. I am also the only female in the department for the last five years. I try to motivate Medical officers and students to consider a life in Urology. I know that at the end of the day my mere presence is testament that it can be done and hopefully with grace. My special interests are GynaeUrology and Laparoscopy.
