Medical officer
About
Medical officer at Chris Hani Baragwaneth Academic Hospital.
Born and raised in the Free state.
Completed my MBChB at the University of Pretoria in 2015.
Did my internship at RK Khan, then moved to Kimberley for Community Service.
Spent 3 years in urology at Kimberley before moving to Johannesburg to be in a more academic setting.
I have always known I wanted to be in a surgical discipline of medicine but I didn’t know which one in particular.
It was not until my Anaesthesia rotation in 5th year that I settled on urology.
I remember being in the urology theatre as an Anaesthetic student intern being more intrigued by what was happening on the other side of the green sheet.
The registrar was doing a TURP– and we could watch and see as he was doing this operation, and I remember thinking this has got to be the most amazing thing I have ever seen!
Weeks later I rotated at Kalafong and I saw a hypospadias repair, I was sold on the discipline!
I cannot wait to start my Urology reg time!
